Creator’s Corner

Letter to MacGyver Fans from Creator Lee Zlotoff

Dear Mac Fans,

I cannot begin to express how humbled I am at the way you have embraced MacGyver as a fun and entertaining character, and how so many of you around the world have been inspired to make him part of your lives, if not your vocabulary. Never in my wildest dreams when I was writing the pilot could I have imagined what MacGyver would become. And must, as always, acknowledge the invaluable and essential contributions of all the writers, producers, directors, crew and actors who brought this character to life—first and foremost the incomparable Richard Dean Anderson. So a sincere and profound ‘thank you’ for all involved. (And you can check the MAC YOUNIVERSITY page for their personal recollections.)

  1. Good morning Lee D. Zlottof. I would like to thank you deeply for the creation of my youth that made something very special. I consider myself a super fan of MacGyver.
I would like to give you my guess an actor to make the next MacGyver, which has the physical stereotype of character and I think it would be a fine choice for the character. I suggest to you that the next MacGyver is the actor Jared Padalecki, Supernatural Series of. He reminds us very MacGyver. All in all, I wish you all the luck in the world, so that the MacGyver reborn and provide the next generation the same as felt in the 80 big hug.

  2. To Mister Lee Zlotoff.

  3. Hi Lee,

I’m a professional writer with several professional credits to my name. I know James Wan is all excited about trying to reboot the MacGyver series, but with the backlash that came after that announcement of people wanting the original series to continue, I thought it a good time to reach out.

I have worked for the last several months on what I feel is an excellent concept for the continuation of the original MacGyver series, rather than a reboot. I have already made inquiries to Richard Dean Anderson’s camp, and have been told that if the series were done in what he feels is the correct way, he would be willing to return.

I would love to collaborate with you on this. I have a full 4-page treatment for the new series already written and ready to go, and I think it does both the character of MacGyver, as well as the original series as a whole, justice. Plus, it has been modernized and updated to welcome in the next generation of MacGyvers — including a strong, intelligent female character of which I’m rather proud.

I have included my email in the data of this comment. Please feel free to reach out to me for further credentials and to further investigate.

    Thanks, Lee.

  4. Hello Lee, how are you?
My name is Erick, I have 17 years and live in Brazil. Since young, my mother tell me about MacGyver, but I made my first encounter in the MythBusters Special. I have two questions: exist any prevision to launch the HQ in brazillian portuguese? Exist any possibility to make a movie with Richard Dean Anderson situate in our time? In another’s worlds: if Schwarzzenegger can back like Terminator with 68/69 years, why Richard can’t back with 66?
